Looking ahead to the 2021 Big V season, the NE Bushrangers have got the early jump on most clubs and named our Head Coaches for the 2021-22 seasons. David de Koeyer and Tony Long have both been involved with the NEB program for a number of years and have a wealth of basketball knowledge between them. It is hoped this familiarity will combine with their individual strengths to further develop and promote our program over the next two seasons..
We wish both coaches all the best.
David De Koeyer – Div 2 Men
We believe David brings a special personality to the role of Head Coach. He is popular and well respected throughout the Northeast and across Southern NSW. These traits have assisted NEB with maintaining our core playing group and recruiting a few surprises to the league in recent years. The plan David brings is focussed on the move into Division 1. His strategy is centred around a mix of recruiting senior local players to add to the current leadership group along with the promotion of some of the young guns from our VJBL program. We are excited about David’s plan and are confident he has the capacity to achieve these goals.
David brings a wealth of basketball experience to the program. He played for Wodonga as a junior before joining Northeast Bushrangers as a player in Big V in 2015. Over the past few seasons, he has held the Assistant Coaching role at Bushrangers providing him with a great grasp of the game from a coaching perspective. David believes there is enough local basketball talent in the northeast for Bushrangers to be a real threat for silverware in 2021. He is beginning the work to source an Assistant Coach and the recruitment of the local talent as this announcement is made public.
Tony Long – Div 2 Women
Tony brings a basketball resume to the Northeast that covers five decades. His experience as a player and coach have seen him win State titles in both roles, as well as multiple championships. He is passionate about all things basketball – in short he eats, drinks and breathes basketball! His experience and extensive basketball knowledge is testament to the on-court results he has achieved in the past. Tony was a driving force in establishing our VJBL program and his dedication to the development of young athletes in the north east is commendable.
Tony has strong contacts across the NEB program and has identified key future stars to suit-up in the senior squad in 2021. He is focussed on recruiting a senior leadership group as the core to drive his team, to encourage and build a winning culture. This group, coupled with a good mix of youth, should result in an exciting future for the Bushranger women’s program. His plan to allow the leadership group to take ownership of the program under his guidance, was a key factor in Tony winning the role. We are confident the plan is sound, and its implementation will yield the results the Club is looking for in 2021.
